The farm has been involved in conservation schemes for over 30 years and has converted hundreds of acres of arable land back into low input grassland. You will also notice corridors and grass margins around our crops to provide a diverse habitat for wildlife and protect our hedgerows and watercourses. We have also planted miles of new hedgerows and put out feeders to encourage farmland birds as well as reducing the frequency of hedge cutting to allow more natural food.
We have recently become a Sustainable Farming Incentive pilot farm and are working with Natural England to shape future environmental scheme for all farmers across the country. As part of this scheme we will plant large areas of low input herbal grass leys to encourage insects and improve the soil.
We are also involved in an exciting project to look at how farmers can help to mitigate carbon emissions and become truly net carbon zero ourselves but also help to mitigate carbon produced by others.
